Preparing for Easter in Greece

The Lent is a period when Christians begin to fast and it lasts forty-nine days. The period of Lent has traditionally been counted with the help of a special calendar which has the image of a woman who has seven legs, no mouth and no nose. Here is a presentation of the Greek Lenten calendar which describes how this figure of the woman represents the preparation of the Christian people in order to receive the blessing of Holy Communion and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
